Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being

Health has always been an important aspect in everyone life. Without it, an individual cannot work efficiently and will not be at their best potential. I always think that I am a healthy young man, of course because I am young and rarely contracted any disease. I forgot to mention that I was just finishing high school at that time, so just like any other teenagers my age (maybe not so many), I just spent every days of my life watching television, playing video games, and sometimes just sleep the whole day. It is a very unhealthy lifestyle right ? Although my body now has been bigger (not in a healthy way) and started to easily feel tired without doing nothing, nah who cares.

One day, my brother invited me to join him in his school cross country as there are an open category for parents or any other who would like to join. I accepted that invitation without any hesitation, as I think that it is just a 1.5 km fun run and there is also 10 places for people who will get medals.

The awaited day finally arrive, I was excited that day knowing that I will get either gold, silver and bronze  for the marathon. Skip forward, I already at the starting line with about 20 middle-aged men. Easy win. Whistle blown, everyone starts to run, I am at the front, everything going smoothly. That is not the case when I am at the 0.5 km, my diaphragm feels like about to burst, my heart cannot take it anymore, one by one people that i thought not even my competitor run pass through me. Everything feels alright until one man in about his 60s jogged pass me and gives a slight contemptuous look on me. I also heard a giggle after that. At that time I cannot even think straight as my body felt very tired and worn out. At second checkpoint which located at 1 km point, I started to walk until I reach the finishing line.

My brother looked and asked me why I lost? I just give him a smile. At that time, I decided that I will improve my health without minding whatever it takes.

After that day, I started to wake up at 6 a.m. I will take bath early as it is very good for our body especially for heart and lungs and perform Subuh prayer at the mosque. At around 7 a.m., I will take jog around my neighborhood. Starting from 1 km a day, and after about 3 months, I managed to run 7 km without any problem. I started to eat healthy foods or real foods. Junk food and carbonated drinks have no place in my diet every day. In the evening, I will take a swim to once again, improving my body and mental health. And also most of the weekends, I will join my friends playing football together. It is true what people say, great mind comes from a healthy body. I can feel that my mood and my critical thinking has improving day by day.

As for the conclusion, we should never think that we are healthy just because how we look from the outside. Sometimes physical appearance does not guarantee us a good health. Just like my story above, I hope that we can improve our health together without looking at age and gender in order to achieve the third goals of Sustainable Development Goals which is good health and well-being.
